If not enough federal tax is taken out of your paycheck during the year, you may end up owing money when you file your tax return.

To help prevent that, you can fill out a new W-4 form with your employer and ask for more federal tax to be taken out of each paycheck.

The easiest way is:

• choose Single 
• leave the other adjustment sections blank unless they truly apply 
• add an extra dollar amount on Step 4(c). That extra amount means your employer will take out more tax each pay period, which can help reduce the chance that you will owe later.
